Can a government kill its own citizens and get away with it?
In this crazy, twisted, so-called free country, yes, it can.
Earlier this week, Al-Qaeda leader, Anwar al-Awlaki was killed by a US drone attack in Yemen. Yes, he was an American citizen, and yes he was a very evil man.
I have one question regarding the bombing, though: How evil does an individual have to be to justify killing them without due process?
Keep in mind that there were never any charges brought up against the US born, al-Awlaki. There were suspicions of his involvement in multiple terror attacks against the US; but that still doesn’t justify the shredding of the US legal system. Watch this video of press secretary, Jay Carney, defend the White House’s position on the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki. It’s disgusting.
The mere thought of the president of the United States possessing the authority to write a “hit list” of Americans he thinks are bad guys, is scary.
Watching him scratch a name off that list, is chilling.
And to think Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize. Obama, with this killing, set a dangerous precedent. One that carries a very slippery slope. Kings kill their own people without due process. A constitutional republic – something America should be – provides a fair trial for EVERY citizen.
Presidential contender, Ron Paul said it best, the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki is sad. He’s right. It was a sad day for America. When it comes to taking a life, the ends cannot justify the means. An evil man is dead, but in no way is it something to rejoice.
Should the US have a king or a president?
Read this.
I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Great article, young sir! What amazes me is that they didn’t even try to take refuge in their Star Chamber courts (e.g. FISA courts), which are tame enough to approve just about anything. The fact that they felt they needed no cover for this naked exercise of power is truly frightening. Doubly so since no significant power ever seized by the President has ever been conceded by a later President.
