The “Occupy Wall Street” Coalition

I’m no fan of compromise. But I am of coalitions.

To be clear, while I do believe the protests are misguided, I also see opportunity. I see opportunity for a coalition against corporatism. There is a unique common ground among the true liberals and Libertarian’s in this country – and that’s the belief that corporatism is running this economy and country into the ground.

By corporatism I mean the cozy relationship between business and the government. There needs to be a genuine separation of the two. No more bailouts. No more subsidies. No more tax loop holes for the super rich.

But there is still something missing at these protests. It feels incomplete. And it’s because no one is marching onto the steps of the Federal Reserve.

In all seriousness, how does the Federal Reserve get a free pass? The mother of all banks is not being talked about at any of these protests? Everyone is complaining about bailouts, corporate welfare, and the financial crisis, but…Who bailed out the banks? The Fed. Who prints the money for corporate welfare? The Fed. Who enabled Wall Street bankers to cause this current mess? The Fed. All the problems facing this country were made possible because of the existence of the Federal Reserve System. Period.

If there is one thing I will not understand about progressives/liberals, it is there unwillingness to criticize the Fed. I mean, it falls under three categories that cause all liberals to squirm: It’s a monopoly. It’s a big ass bank. It’s privately run. How can people NOT wish to eliminate such an evil institution?

Think of corporatism as a giant sea monster. The cronies in Wall Street are the tentacles, while the body of the beast is the Federal Reserve. For now it seems this “Occupy Wall Street” movement is attacking the tentacles. But as soon protesters start shifting their attention onto the Federal Reserve System – the body –  the beast that is corporatism will eventually meet its match, and the “change” everyone wants to see, may finally come to fruition.
