Occupy Wall Street and Cognitive Dissonance

The problem with the Occupy movement is not that they are wrong for being angry. It’s their inability to understand what to be angry about. Their economic illiteracy and blatant displays of cognitive dissonance are what’s most frustrating about the protests.

The best example of this is when the “99 percent,” while protesting against the vaguely described,  ”1 percent,” stopped to honor Steve Jobs – a one percenter – with a moment of silence.

Earth to Occupy Wall Street. Let’s start thinking, before we start yelling. Because, according to the vast majority of the protestors, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey – all members of the evil 1 percent – are part of the problem.

Wrong. The one percenters who make millions working for the corporations displayed in the photo above, all make our lives easier and more enjoyable. I’m glad they make that much money. Without them, I don’t enjoy the clothes I wear, the computer I use, or the food I eat.

Money is not the root of all evil. Power is. There are capitalists…and there are corporatists.

Learn the difference.
